The common property resource owned by village local administration should be exclusively used for pasture /fodder development since non-availability of adequate feed and fodder seems to have become one of the prime constraints perceived by dairy farmers in the studies conducted in several parts of the country. The present investigation was carried out at Experimental Research Farm, Karguva of Bundelkhand University, Jhansi (U.P.) during 2009-2010 in eight year old fruit trees (Emblica officinalis ,Psidium guajava, Zizyphus mauritiana) planted at 5m x 5m spacing under which the pasture crops (Cenchrus ciliaris,Stylosanthus hamata) were established after two years of plantation in entisols. The study was conducted to evaluate the quantitative and qualitative behavior of improved pasture crops.Growth performance of fruit trees in red lateritic soil under rainfed condition was studied. Pasture production was maximal at peak growth period (season-I) under Psidium guajava plot (8.9 t ha-1). Yield of pasture sharply decreased during season-II but not so sharply during season-III. Forage production 1 to 1.25 maway from tree canopy was more (8.35 t ha-1) than in close proximity of trees (01 m) where it was 7.93 t ha-1. (1 to 1.25 m) , but the difference between the yields at these two distances was not found statistically significant.
