Plastic products are resistant to decomposition. Farmers use plastic thread, also called plastic sutli for lac, Kerria lacca Kerr. (Hemiptera : Kerriidae) inoculation. Due to environmental awareness, an experiment was conducted in October, 2019 to visualize whether rubber bands can be used in place of plastic sutli. Thirty two palas, Butea monosperma (Lam.) Taub. (family Fabaceae) trees were randomly divided into two groups, each meant for inoculation with two different methods, i.e. inoculation with plastic sutli and with rubber bands. It was concluded that the rubber band method has a provision of cost cutting up to 32%. Further, number of lac insect settled was higher in rubber band method.
Lac inoculation, plastic sutli, rubber band, Butea monosperma.
