Woodfordia fruticosa (L.) Kunz (family Lythraceae) is commonly known as Dhawai. This plant species holds significance in Ayurvedic and Unani systems of medicine due to its therapeutic properties. The study provides a comprehensive overview of a detailed analysis conducted on the wholesale prices of W. fruticosa across two important markets, Katni and Dhamtari in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh states respectively of central India from the year 2010 to 2021.The study involved periodic quarterly price data collection, statistical analysis and interpretation of price trends and variations. Results revealed notable fluctuations in prices over two distinct periods (2010-2014 and 2015-2021), indicating substantial changes in markets. Both regions experienced significant increase in mean prices in the latter period, potential shifts in demand or market influences. While price volatility remained consistent, the coefficient of variation highlighted changes in price stability relative to mean values. These fluctuations likely stem from multifaceted factors including demand-supply, variations in production. The analysis identified contrasting trends between Katni and Dhamtari markets, with remarkable spikes and declines in annual percentage changes, implying varying influences and economic conditions. These fluctuations might also scarcity in supply chains due to harvesting of species and market-specific factors impacting the demand-supply equilibrium. Understanding these price changes is vital to strategize for conservation of species and augmenting supply through regeneration in forests and also explore possibilities of cultivation.
