The present review deals with sustainability and sustainable forest management through participatory approach in India. The continual interaction between forest fringe people and forest ecosystem is the only solution for the sustainable development of forest. Some success stories of man-ecology interaction towards eco-restoration and productivity enhancement in degraded forests have also been presented.
